Sandiway Golf Club were perfect hosts for the revised format of the 99th Cheshire Ladies Golf Championship. Previously the competition has been over three days with a 36-hole qualifying round setting up two days of match-play for the top qualifiers.
The format change to a 36-hole medal on one day was approved by the players and organisers and Sandiway provided them with an excellent and challenging course backed by top class clubhouse hospitality for players, supporters and organisers.
The morning round had blustery winds and heavy showers for the players to endure but conditions improved for the afternoon round with plenty of trophies on offer.
The winner of the Championship Bowl was Crewe and Cheshire junior star Morgan Bollan, who had just returned from a successful time in the Scottish Open Girls Championship where she was runner-up and won the Under 16 prize. She had the best gross score of the day and become one of the youngest-ever winners of the Cheshire Ladies championship.
Taking the Gladys Dobel Cup as runner-up was 2025 winner Amy Anson (Prestbury)
The best net score was posted by Mel Koscikiewicz (Bidston) to win the Sir William Bailey Cup, ahead of Louise Bryce (Eaton).
Cheshire Girls manager Cathy Day (Sandiway) won the Senior Salver for the best 18 holes in the over 50 years category.
The Millenium Trophy for best gross score in the 18-24 years category was Immy Williamson (Delamere Forest) and the Doris Brown Trophy for u18’s was won by Jessica Flynn (Bramall Park).
Cheshire ladies Captain Denise Burchell (Sandiway) had been the main organiser for a smoothly run event and she was delighted to present the trophies and prizes to the winners after a long day.
A long and successful day was rounded off by Cheshire President Marjorie Griffiths who gave deserving praise to all at Sandiway, the organisers, the players and their supporters for making this another top day in the Cheshire calendar.
