The Cumbria Men's Team enjoyed a tremendous day at Appleby Golf Club on Saturday as they captured the Solway Salver in the annual match versus South of Scotland.

Captain Simon Young led his team to a resounding 12-6 victory on a very blustery day, getting revenge for a defeat north of the border last season.

Simon fielded a strong team in the final warm-up game before the Northern Counties league fixtures begin in May. He was also able to introduce 2 debutants to the Men's team. Ian Robinson (Kirkby Lonsdale GC) and 16 year old Brad Quayle (Seascale GC) performed extremely well in their first game and both earned wins in their foursomes and singles matches.

Appleby GC proved a strong test and was in superb condition and the hospitality was first class as usual.

The match was played in great spirit and the win provides a perfect boost for the Cumbria lads before they start their league campaign next month against Yorkshire at Kirkby Lonsdale GC
