Bromborough Golf Club were again fantastic hosts for the Cheshire County Foursomes Championship over 36 holes and it was enjoyed by a full field of 30 pairs both on and off the course. This was the 91st playing of the County Foursomes for the RH Prestwich Trophy.
Local knowledge proved to be vital and providing the sting in the tail were the gross winners John Sadler and Tom Woods (Bromborough) with rounds of 75 and 76, for 151. giving them a clear win over past winners, Sandiway’s Matthew Darwent and Liam Kettle 154 and James Dewhurst and Pete Bostock (Upton-by-Chester) 155.
In the Net Competition, things were much tighter with only one shot separating the top four. But on their own and winning with a net score of 150 (166 -16) were Gary Crowder and Andrew Neville of Bromborough. Three pairs on a net score of 151 meant there had to be a countback (although Saddler and Woods were excluded because they had already won a prize) – so Kristian Robison (Mottram Hall) and Alex Corder (Hazel Grove) with a net back 18 of 73 (76 – 3) beat Ash Stredder and Sam Edgar (Bromborough) whose back 18 was 79 (84 – 5).
Championships Director Stewart Neil said: “It was a very successful day enjoying the surroundings and golfing challenges on a superb golf course and the hospitality and welcome from everyone at Bromborough Golf Club.
“This is something that we never take for granted and we are sincerely grateful for the efforts that everybody makes to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
